Sephora Spring Sale First Haul

Three New Items for Spring 2023

With four more days left in the Sephora Spring Sale, here are some items that I already picked up during this sale. I'm also testing out some foundation and sunscreen/primer samples that I requested in store so that I can decide on any additional products before the end of the sale.

1st Sale Haul

I decided to do some browsing, swatching and sampling in store to see some things I had my eye on or that I was curious about, so I could plan out my spring sale purchases of restocks and any new items. There's not too much I need to restock on, so I was definitely thinking about some new items (mostly makeup) since I have a pretty good stash of skincare at the moment. However, this Kosas Spray-on Serum definitely caught my eye!

A Spray on Serum? Fun and Refreshing!

I thought the Kosas Plump + Juicy Vegan Collagen + Probiotic Spray-On Serum was a neat concept for when I’m lazy, and that it would be refreshing, which it is. It has a relatively fine mist (though not the finest) and an even sprayer. It is great for face, neck and décolleté. Highlighted ingredients are vegan collagen, peptides, and hyaluronic acid. I have been using it for about a week, in the morning and at night, after cleansing and applying my essence and before any heavier serums and moisturizer. It does have a noticeable scent that leans powdery. It is reasonably pleasant, but slightly unexpected every time, since the name and bottle give the impression that it would be more fruity/fresh than powdery. To my nose, the scent dissipates immediately after spraying and it is not strong. However, in browsing the Sephora reviews, it does seem that some found the smell to be very strong and off-putting, so you may want to check in store first if you are sensitive to smells.

It has a nice sturdy and brightly colored glass bottle. It is listed on Sephora's site as Vegan, Clean at Sephora, and planet-positive. As for Sephora reviews as of this post date, it is showing a 4.3 average (out of 5), with about 2/3 of the reviews incentivized and 1/3 non-incentivized, and about 84% of the 152 reviews recommend the product.

As for how I use it - I spray it on and pat it in and let it absorb before the next step of my skincare routine. While generally my skin is well-behaved, it can sometimes react to new products with breakouts, I have had no reaction to adding this spray-on serum to my routine. I have definitely noticed some much needed additional hydration since using the Kosas Spray-on Serum. Although I haven't seen any major changes in my skin due to this, I don't necessarily expect to since (a) it has only been a week and (b) the rest of my routine is pretty well taking care of any concerns. I do find it very refreshing and fun to use and I would recommend it if you are looking for an added boost to your skincare routine, especially for summer.

Natasha Denona Mini Pastel Eyeshadow Palette

I can’t resist ND minis and this Natasha Denona Mini Pastel Eyeshadow Palette was no exception. I have been eyeing the ND full size Pastel palette for some time, but have a hard time justifying that one since I have so many other great palettes to use. At $25, the minis are a great for getting a sampling of colors, great to travel with so you are not worried about a larger palette getting damaged, and fun to collect.

I only had time to do a very quick look using only a couple of shades (Aurora, Ontario and Sea Star - 1, 3, 5) so I'll have to do a more detailed review on this one later - I will update this post at that time, but here are some swatches and that look in the meantime.

Fenty Hella Thicc Mascara

The Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Hella Thicc Volumizing Mascara Cuz I'm Black is good but hasn't been phenomenal for me, as I have been getting some flaking on application and after a few hours of wear. On me, it doesn’t seem to last as long as Benefit Cosmetics BADgal BANG!, so I don’t think the Fenty Hella Thicc will be a repurchase for me. It may be worth picking up in a deluxe if you want to try it out. It does seem to be buildable in terms of volume, but can start to look a little clumpy after multiple layers.

On the plus side, It does have a nice, deep black color, and has a bit of a wetter formula (which I prefer), and it has a tapered brush with straight edges. The tapered brush and narrower tip lets you get to the inner and outer corners of your lashes with ease. It has a super lightweight and sleek packaging - it almost feels empty! I like the geometric shape so it doesn't roll away, but you can't stand it on it's end either. I'm wearing the Fenty mascara in the pics above, so you can see it in action.

As for Sephora reviews, as of the date of this post, it has a 4.1 average rating out of 153 total reviews, and 60 are non-incentivized reviews.
