While the peak bloom may vary around the world, let's use this week to be inspired by the beauty of the cherry blossoms.
This was my first cherry blossom look of the week. I was in a rush to attend a conference downtown, and so I only had a few minutes to throw on some makeup. I originally had a cute top and flower earrings on theme, but then the flower petals in the earrings kept getting caught in my hair so I took them off, and the weather turned windy and cold, so I ditched my cute springy outfit for a black sweatshirt! C'est la vie, I guess. This was my first time using the Italian Spritz palette from Too Faced. I had just recently picked this up and they did not even have a tester out at Ulta. I haven't even had time to swatch it, though swatches are coming soon! Has anyone used this palette yet? Let me know in the comments!
Why I Had to Have This Palette
One of the reasons I had to have it is that I love the Aperol Spritz cocktail, which is typically thought of as a classic Italian Spritz cocktail, made with Aperol, Prosecco, soda water and garnished with fresh orange. As with most Too Faced palettes, it does have a light scent on theme for the palette. This one features a light, citrusy scent, I would say it's lighter than the other scented palettes from Too Faced, like the Chocolate Bar and Peach palettes. While I am still itching to do a look that will pair with a classic Aperol Spritz, for this look, I wanted to create a light cherry blossom look and I wanted to use my new palette.
How I Created This Look - Cherry Blossom Eyes
First, I applied the Gelat-ohh (creamy matte color) all over lids and above the crease with a fluffy eyeshadow brush, then I added When in Rome (medium pink matte shade) to the crease, above the crease and to the outer corner using a small crease brush. Then, I added a little bit of Espresso Yourself (brown matte shade) on upper lash line. Finally, I used Lake Como (blue sparkle shade) on the inner corner and center of lids. I finished off my eyes with the GXVE by Gwen Stefani Can't Stop Staring mascara. It gives a nice voluminous and lenghtened look, with an intense black color. This would have looked nice with a softer mascara also, a dark brown or a charcoal.
The Rest of the Cherry Blossom Makeup Look
For face, I used my holy grail primer to fill in pores, the Tarte Timeless Smoothing Primer, followed by the Danessa Myricks Yummy Skin Serum Foundation in color 8P. For a little extra coverage I needed, I used the Hourglass Vanish Airbrush Concealer (mini-size) in Silk 2.5 to cover some dark spots and hyperpigmentation. It's a great, lightweight, but full coverage concealer.
Then, to add that cherry glow, I used the Rose Inc. Cream Blush Refillable Cheek and Lip Color in the color Dahlia. This is deeply pigmented, but I applied lightly with a brush to get just a hint of color on cheeks. I followed with the Natasha Denona Mini Diamond & Glow Duo for an icy highlight, like the light and dreamy cherry blossoms. On lips, I went very simple, just adding a touch of the Clarins Lip Comfort Hydrating Oil. They have updated these, but it looks similar to the current shade Pitaya.
Finally, I used the GXVE by Gwen Stefani Hella On Point Clean Ultra Fine Brow Pencil in Shade 4 [gifted]. This is a little dark shade for me, but works if I use a light hand. So, overall, I was happy with this look, though it was a bit rushed and could have used a little bit more time to make it really polished.
